Tulevana lauantaina saan kunnian ottaa vastaan Vuolasvirta-palkinnon
ansiokkaasta kasvatustyöstä. Merkkipaalun saavuttaminen on hyvä kohta pysähtyä
miettimään asioita. Koen yhdeksi suurimmista ansioistani kasvattajana
poikkeuksellisen suuren terveystutkimusprosentin. Mielestäni siinä konkretisoituu
sitoutumiseni koirien terveyden ja keeshondien parhaaksi tehtävään työhön. Jokainen
koira ansaitsee hyvän elämän.
Lonkat ja kyynärpäät on kuvattu peräti 94 % kasvateistani. Silmät ja polvet on tutkittu melkein yhtä monelta, ja muutama silmätulos on pian tulossa. Selkätutkimuksia
ja sydänkuunteluita on tehty koko ajan lisääntyvässä määrin. Samaan ei taida
päästä kukaan muu rodussa - eikä kovin monessa muussakaan rodussa.
Olen valtavan kiitollinen kasvatinomistajilleni siitä, että
olette ymmärtäneet terveystutkimusten tärkeyden ja nähneet vaivaa niiden eteen.
Koirien terveys on meidän kaikkien yhteinen asia. Terveystutkimukset auttavat havaitsemaan
piileviä sairauksia ajoissa, jolloin hoito voidaan aloittaa ennen kuin ongelma
pahenee. Vaikka koiraa ei käytettäisi jalostukseen, sen terveystiedot voivat
olla arvokkaita rodun kokonaisterveyden seurannassa. Tarvitsemme mahdollisimman
kattavaa tietoa myös lemmikkikoirista, jotta saadaan realistinen kuva
sairauksien esiintyvyydestä rodussa ja eri linjoissa. Mitä enemmän faktatietoa
meillä on käytettävissä, sitä parempia jalostusvalintoja osaamme tulevaisuudessa
tehdä.
Uusimmat tutkimustulokset ovat Berry-pentueesta, josta on
tutkittu jo yhtä koiraa vaille kaikki. Viimeinenkin Berry on menossa
tutkimuksiin alkuvuodesta. Iso kiitos Miisa, Saija ja Johanna viimeisimmistä

Saturday, I have the honor of receiving the Vuolasvirta Award for meritorious
breeding work. Reaching this milestone is a good moment to pause and reflect.
One of my greatest achievements as a breeder, in my view, is the exceptionally
high percentage of health screenings. To me, this demonstrates my commitment to
the health of dogs and the work done for the benefit of Keeshonds. In my
opinion, every dog deserves a good life.
Hips and
elbows have been X-rayed in as many as 94 % of my bred dogs. Eyes and patellas have been
examined in almost as many, and a few more eye results are on the way. Spinal
examinations and heart auscultations have been carried out in an
ever-increasing number. I don’t think anyone else in the breed – or in many other
breeds – has reached the same level.
I am
immensely grateful to my puppy owners for understanding the importance of
health screenings and making the effort to get them done. The health of dogs is
a shared responsibility for all of us. Health checks help detect hidden
diseases early, allowing treatment to begin before problems worsen. Even if a
dog is not used for breeding, its health data can be valuable for monitoring
the overall health of the breed. We need as comprehensive information as
possible, including pet dogs, to get a realistic picture of disease prevalence
in the breed and in different lines. The more factual data we have, the better
breeding decisions we can make in the future.
The latest
test results are from the Berry litter, where all but one dog have already been
examined. The last Berry will go for testing early next year. A big thank you
to Miisa, Saija, and Johanna for the latest results!
